it really upsets me when people try to make me forget Jon and Richie’s brotherhood, saying Richie doesn’t deserve to be cherished because what he’s done makes him an asshole. And true as that is - Richie has been an arrogant prick and nothing like the humble and gentle man I really thought he was - don’t you understand that there has to be a reason for it? A guy like Richie who’s always been so selfless, and who’s obviously always out Jon before everyone - even his own daughter - doesn’t just turn into a selfish man just like that.
Whatever happened between them, we don’t know, but to say there was no fight as they have, and to believe that, is stupid. Look at Jon lately, it’s easy to see he’s not expecting Richie to come back, he looks broken down and sad and guilty to me. Richie is jabbing at Jon and the band because he’s desperate for Jon’s attention, but at the same time I think he’s too afraid to crawl back because he thinks Jon won’t take him back. And would Jon take him back? I think so.
I think so because Jon himself stated that unless Richie wants to rejoin the band, Bon Jovi is over and went out in a good spot. He even admitted he was the one who made a mistake in starting the tour way too early, and i think that was a futile attempt on his part to make Richie less hostile. Either part of this can be discussed, but point is that if Richie doesn’t dare to come crawling back, we’ll have no more Bon Jovi. It’s simple as that. Now people can say Jon will find a replacement, someone to fill Richie’s shoes, but Jon obviously feels that he doesn’t want to. Jon wants Richie by his side, he wants his brother and best friend and right hand man. Richie wants to be acknowledged as more than another of the three extra guys. I can understand them both, but even Jon hasn’t been handling this situation too well.
Easily brushed over is the fact that Jon himself did take jabs at Richie this Summer, while Richie was silent, so it’s no wonder Richie feels he has the right to do so now. So before you start judging Richie and saying he doesn’t deserve to be a part of the band anymore, think back over the entire situation. Think of all the times Jon has indeed cut Richie short, because I think those are all Richie can see now, not the times Jon has helped him or backed him up. And I think Richie knows that what he’s doing is wrong and that making it on his own will probably go sour, and he’s scared for that too. While Jon is scared for Richie.
So don’t tell me this is unsolvable, that the brotherhood is dead. Because I believe that their love for each other is still there, it’s just that Richie’s in some sort of mid life crisis trying to find himself, and Jon knows he’s not wanted - although needed - at the moment so he stands off. If, in five years from now, this mess is not solved you can talk to me about this again. But right now I think it’s too soon to jump the gun and assume. 30 years of history won’t die this quickly, or this ugly.
